ACT Test

bg ADMISSIONS

The ACT test is an entrance exam that assesses students' general educational development and their ability to complete college-level work. The multiple-choice test covers four skill areas: English, mathematics, reading, and science. The Writing Test is not included in On-Campus ACT testing. If you have not taken the ACT on one of the national test dates, you may take the On-Campus ACT through EMCC’s Office of Advising, Retention, and Student Success. Pre-registration is required, and there is a $70 fee that may be subject to change.
Students who are not satisfied with their ACT scores may choose to take the ACCUPLACER test, administered by EMCC, instead of taking the national ACT again. Students may take either the ACT or the ACCUPLACER test to satisfy entrance and placement requirements.
There are some programs which students cannot enter through the Accuplacer alone: the Cosmetology/Barbering, Nursing, Funeral Services, EMT, Culinary Arts, and Hotel and Restaurant programs require an ACT score. Students should check with the advisors of the other programs of study that require testing scores for entry to determine which type of entry score is accepted.
In order to take the On-Campus ACT, new students should apply online for admission to the college before calling the appropriate campus. EMCC administers the On-Campus ACT test only to EMCC students. The scores cannot be used for any purposes outside of EMCC and cannot be transferred to another institution. Also, students must wait at least 60 days before taking another On-Campus ACT.

East Mississippi Community College has provided an exceptional foundation for my academic and personal growth. The professors' dedication has fostered my development into a stronger student. EMCC offered numerous opportunities for me to excel, both in academics and extracurricular activities. Here, I've built incredible friendships that will undoubtedly last a lifetime. The knowledge I gained and the memories I made at EMCC will forever be a part of me when I embark on my journey to a four-year college.

"East Mississippi Community College has been an incredible launching pad for my future! The professors here have truly cared about me and have gone above and beyond to make sure I succeeded. From the Ambassadors program to PTK to student government, EMCC offered a supportive environment for me to get involved and hone skills I will use in the future. My favorite aspects of EMCC have been my teachers' easily accessible office hours and the writing center. These made a huge difference in my confidence and prepared me for the challenges of a four-year university. I'm so grateful for the knowledge and experiences I've gained here!"

“I chose EMCC because it gave me the best opportunities coming out of high school. I got plenty of scholarships because the school offered so many. I would not have been able to do half of the things that I have done if i didn’t come here. First generation students are already at a disadvantage. If you are able to you should get an education to break the generational curse and create generational wealth for your family. Education is the most powerful tool.”

"EMCC isn't just a place to learn, it's home. From the vibrant festivals to the passionate instructors, every corner offered an opportunity to grow. Public speaking not only honed my interview skills but also instilled the confidence to think on my feet. Most importantly, the time at EMCC flew by because it was filled with friendships, challenges overcome, and memories made. To anyone stepping onto campus for the first time, embrace every moment, make connections, and remember - there's a whole community invested in your success."
